2nd ANNUAL MEETING OF THE NYS USBC WBA, INC.
The Annual Meeting of the New York State Women's Bowling Association, Inc. was held May 16 & 17,2008 in Albany at the Holiday Inn. There were 160 delegates present from 45 assosciations. Delegates were welcomed on Friday by President Priscilla Zonneville of Marion, NY along with Deb Sippel, President of the Albany USBC, Debby Goedeke, Convention Service Mgr. from the CVB and Mark Zimmerman of the Holiday Inn. The following are highlights from that weekend meeting.
Rochester will host the 2009 events and Kelli O'Connor of the CVB gave delegates an update of what to expect when they come next spring.
President Zonneville gave a report on the state of the association and the changes being made to adjust to a lesser income and smaller organization.
Association Manager Nancy Walczk reported on association operations,the downsizing of space, the tournament activities, USBC Summit and promotion at home with NYS Tourism,Recreation and Sports Development. She also presented the financial reports of the past season.
Committee reports were given and accepted as presented.
Elections were held. President Zonneville was reelected for a 2 year term along with Barbara Kreiley, 2nd Vice President, Genessee Region; Directors; Elizabeth DeHart, Staten Island; Karen Krauss, Albany, and Brenda Swanson, Corning, were also reelected to 2 year terms.
Delegates approved three amendments pertaining to voting procedures and mail voting method.
The Saturday session began with the Memorial Service at which time Sgt.At Arms Bibsy Wansor and Past President Mary Smack were eulogized and all bowlers,friends and family were who had passed away during the current season were remembered.
The 2008 Award winners were Service To Youth-Deana Friedman, recognized for her work for many years in the Poughkeepsie WBA with the youth bowlers; Bowling/Community Service was awarded posthumously to Eva Harris of Poughkeepsie for her work with the association and her outside activities in her home town; George Hoffman, Proprietor of the Sunset Recreation Center in Albany was awarded the Proprietor Recognition Award for his service to the bowlers in his center which boasted 100% certification of league bowlers. He was also the host of the Doubles and Singles portion of the state event and the Queen's Tournament this year.
Hall of Fame winners were Elizabeth Taylor of Gloverville in the Meritorious Service category for her service locally, statewide and a national basis. In the Superior Performance Category, Denise DeCarlo-Johnson of Albany area was the recipient of the Hall of Fame induction for her many years of participation and high scores in not only the NYS Tournament, but in local and WASA events.
New Items
The 2009 Queen's Tournament being held at Clover Lanes has added a Senior Division for ladies 50 years old and over. It will be conducted in the same manner as the other divisions. Average limit is 160+ AND THERE MUST BE AT LEAST 20 ENTRIES IN THE DIVISION.
The 28th Annual Senior Singles Tournament being held in August(16/17 & 23/24) In Binhamton area and over 650 ladies will be participating in this event. Looking ahead, next year's event will be held on Staten Island and hosted by the Staten Island USBC at Rab's Country Lanes.
Empire State Games will also take place in Binghamton area and bowling will be at the Owego Bowling Center,Owego, New York beginning July 24th.
