2010 AWARD NYS USBC WBA AWARD WINNERS ANNOUNCED….

2010 NYS USBC WBA HALL OF FAME

JoAnn LaTulip of Oswego has been elected into the NYS USBC WBA Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service. She currently is serving as Sergeant-At-Arms but her service to the the WBA goes far beyond this current position.

JoAnn has virtually been involved on all levels of bowling having served as a league official, President of the Oswego WBA for 23 years moving up that ladder from Sgt.-at-Arms and Vice President. She also was a Certified Lane Inspector in Oswego during that tenure.

JoAnn has been on the state board for 18 years having been appointed a director in 1983 by then President Mary Smack. She was a Director, 3rd Vice Presdient, 2nd Vice President and like Bibsy Wansor before her, she aspired to that Sgt.-At-Arms post and took that opportunity to serve in that position eight years ago. She has served on virtually every committee and is very proud to have been the Scholarship Chairman for several years, currently serving in that position. Now, as a member of the Syracuse delegation, she has worked in the state tournament office when the tournament was in Syracuse, has been a state delegate for 38 years and WIBC/USBC delegate for 15 years.

Outside of bowling, JoAnn leads a well rounded life in the volunteer field as she is a Hospice Volunteer for Oswego County, a Pastorial Care Coordinator for Hospice, serves her church as a Lay Reader, Eucharistic Minister and on the Finance Committee and Local Human Needs Committee Volunteer.

Congratulations JoAnn, a well deserved honor for a very busy person.

Her first 300 game was rolled in the 93-94 and she recorded 3 more after that.season. Kathy has one 800, an 814 which she rolled in the 93-94 season. WINNERS OF SPECIAL ANNUAL AWARDS

The 2010 Service to Bowling/Communitiy Award will be presented to Luise Weischowsky of Blauvelt, a member of the Rockland County USBC.

Lu (as she is known) has been bowling since 1956. She was appointed to the local women’s board by President Ethel Doller and served as a director and then Sgt.-at-Arms and currently 2nd Vice President of the now merged Rockland USBC. She was chair of the NYS Seniors Tournament that was in RCWBA and was chair to an event called the “First Rocklandfest” of the local bowling council. She also used her artistic talents to design many of the Rockland Co pins, logo, shirts, cover for Average Book and she has chaired special dinners of the association. Lu was a great promoter of the game and along with being a delegate to WIBC for 7 years and NYS for 15 years, she served on 20+ committees for the Rockland group. Lu was inducted into the Rockland Hall of Fame in 1991.

Lu is a very dedicated volunterr and has focused much of her energy to the American Heart Association. She has chaired a Bowl-a-Thon, the Heart Ball, Battling Banks, a Fashion Show, Flower Campaign, a Heart Walk and many others, helping to raise $10,000 for the AHA. She was awarded “Volunteer of the Year” in 1988-89.

As one of those individuals who is willing to help others and has outdone herself with giving of her time and energy not only to bowling, but for a wonderful cause, we congratulate Lu on being the recipient of this award.

********************************************************************************************************************************

The 2010 Proprietor/Manager Recognition Award will be presented to Steve Miller, Proprietor of Midway Lanes, Sunset Lanes and Seaway Lanes in Watertown. He resides within the confines of the Southern Tier USBC in the Binghamton area.

Steve is a “hands on” type proprietor and makes personal contact with league officers and individuals who are planning events at his centers. He helps leagues form, calls individuals about joining leagues and filling teams. An email goes out to all bowlers advising them of special events being offered and inviting participation. His staff makes calls reminding them of league meetings and dates and times the leagues will start their fall leagues.

Midway Lanes provides office space for the Southern Tier USBC at no cost to the association. He provided the association with a list of bowlers who were no longer bowling to encourage comeback and he provided a program to help Seniors bowl better.

There are 42 leagues bowling in his centers and only two are not certified and they are mixed leagues.

He took an interest in the merger process and helped choose candidates to be on the board. He has been an ABC and USBC Member since 1982.

Steve also established a foundation in memory of his daughter Alexis Miller to provide financial assistance to families in need. He donates the use of lanes for fundraising of Achieve (BOCES) and sponsors baseball, hockey and football teams.

Steve’s personal touch to his centers and patrons is a tribute to his success and, for his attributes, he is deserving of the Recognition Award and our congratulations.

The 2010 Service to Youth Award will be presented to Judith Phillips, Kingston and Kingston USBC WBA.

Judy has been involved in youth bowling as a coach for 28 years at the Kingston Hoe Bowl. That being said, I am sure the position involved providing education, tournaments and rides to and from bowling league and tournaments. Providing all this in itself deserves an award, but there is much more that she does in the youth bowling world.

Judy is the Chairperson of the Youth League and Tournament activities in the Kingston area.

She has served on the NYS Youth Association Board of Directors for 14 years, is the Ulster County Youth Leader Advisor and the New York State Youth Leader Advisor. Judy currently is the Chair of the State Tournament Committee.

Judy was the Director of the Ulster County Coca Cola Youth Tournament, and now is Director of the Pepis Tournament event in Region 8.

Judy is a member of the Kingston WBA Hall of Fame.

Congratulations and thank you Judy for the volunteer time you have given to a vital part of what makes bowling continue to be a popular sport, you are most deserving of this award.

New

SOMEONE WE KNOW NEEDS OUR HELP!!

SHE NEEDS THE CONTINUED SUPPORT & PRAYERS THAT WE ARE GIVING HER, BUT SHE IS SEEKING ANY INFORMATION THAT ANYONE MIGHT KNOW ABOUT TRANSPLANTS.

Dianne Boller, age 52 is a wife, mother, grandmother and NYS USBC WBA, Inc Director, Association Manager of the Glens Falls Bowling Association and former board member of the Glens Falls Women’s Bowling Association, plain and simple, but desperately, needs a liver transplant. Time is not on her side.

Her problems started in 2003 when she was diagnosed with breast cancer that lead to surgery, chemo and radiation and several complications along the way to recovery. During this whole process, Dianne saw her mother become very ill, put in a nursing home and, ultimately pass away. As time moved on, Dianne’s father had a stroke. She and her husband moved in with him so they could care for him. He lived for 10 months and ultimately passed away.

In September of 2007, Dianne went for a six month checkup, it showed abnormalities. She then went through a battery of painful tests and was diagnosed with non-alcoholic cirrhosis of the liver which has no treatment or cure. A transplant was the only hope and because she was only cancer free for 4 years instead of 5, she was not a candidate. Her doctor then referred her to the Westchester Transplant Center. A battery of test was again taken before she could be put on a list. In April of 2008, due to her serious condition at that point in time, Dianne was put on the transplant list in hopes of finding a donor.

Since that time, due to her liver condition, post Breast Cancer and several more complications, Dianne’s condition continues to worsen. She remains on the list at Westchester. The drawbacks of becoming a donor in New York State are that you must be age 55 or under or a very healthy person up to age 60 in order to be a donor. For Dianne’s purpose a donor would need to have to Type “O” blood. Once that is determined they would have to meet other criteria and give up 60% of their liver to the recipient if they qualify. Note that the donor’s liver will grow back in 6mos. to normal size. A donor would pay nothing in medical bills should they qualify or even be tested. Family members have been tested but do not qualify to give 60% of their liver due to health conditions.

Dianne has not been able to work for over a year, her disability ran out and she has been forced to go on SS Disability. Each day is becoming a struggle.

If anyone has information that might help Dianne, please contact her IMMEDIATELY as follows;
