HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 1ST ANNUAL MEETING OF THE NEW YORK STATE USBC ASSOCIATON

    The 1st Annual Meeting of the newly re-organized New York State USBC Association, Inc. was hald at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Niagara Falls, N.Y. on May 18 & 19, 2007.

    There was a warm greeting extended from the Niagara Falls USBC President Jeri Marshall, Elizabeth Davis from the Visitors Bureau and Melissa Hull and Tracey Politowski from the Crowne Plaza.

    173 Delegates were in attendance representing the membership of New York State. There was no action of legislation at this first meeting.

    Elected to the board were 1st Vice President Betty Kingsley-Rochester; Sgt.-at-Arms Bibsy Wansor, Long Island; Directors Dianne Boller, Glens Falls; Ada Elwood, B-JC-E; Barbara Korycki, Tri-County; State Delegate-Priscilla Zonneville, Wayne Co. and Alternate State Delegate-Nancy Walczyk Greater Buffalo to the USBC 2008 Annual Meetings in Kansas City.

    The Queens Tournament held Saturday, April 21 at Tonawanda Bowling Center. The Division 1 winner was Shannon O’Keefe of Rochester and this was Shannon’s second win the Queens. In the Div. 2 event, the winner was Lori Wilcox of Syracuse.

    The Albany USBC Association President Deb Sippel invited everyone to come to Albany in 2008.

    Tom Solimine, President of the NYS USBC YABA addressed the delegation updating the programs for your and he also congratulated the NYS USBC WBA on the work they continue to do for the youth bowlers in New York.

    Association Manager Nancy Walczyk reported the many changes taking place due to the merger and loss of dues. Of importance are the reduction of number of scholarship winners; discontinuation of the “Gold Ball”, the delegates lunches, Miss Liberty Tournament, services of photographer at annual tournament., newletter will no longer be mailed and there will be a dedicated page on the website for News From Around the Empire State.

    Committee chairs highlighted the printed reports appearing in the program book for finance, legislative, chaplain, projects/promotion and state delegate.

    The 2007 Scholarship winners were: CLARA & MILLIE HUNT MEMORIAL - $1,000 – Stephanie Brockway, Wappingers Falls; HAZEL FISCHER MEMORIAL - $1,000 – Heather E’Errico, Rochester; CP KAI DEYLII MEMORIAL – $1,000 - Taylor Swartz, Windsor; ORANGE-SULLIVAN COUNTY 500 CLUB - $1,000 – Jennifer Denny, Schenectady; ELEANOR THOMPSON MEMORIAL - $1,000 – Melissa Kammerer, Staten Island.

    The 2007 Breast Cancer Walker netted approximately $7,864.00 to be presented to Roswell Park Cancer Institute and Sloan-Kettering Memorial Hospital.

    The following awards were presented: Service to Youth – Andrea Dolgas, Troy; Service to Bowling/Community – Linda Swaney, Rochester, Proprietor of the Year – Sam Varano, West Haverstraw. (Rockland County).

    Hall of Fame electees were Janet Manfredi, Poughkeepsie in the Superior Performance category and Betty Kingsley, Rochester for Meritorious Service.
